Reliable Emergency Dentistry

There are a few times when a few hours matter more when you have a dental emergency. When you’re in pain as a result of a broken or cracked tooth, or some other serious dental problem, the difference between a dentist’s office that can get you in right away, and one that can get you in “as soon as possible,” makes a huge difference.
One of the advantages of using Rockford Dental Care as your preferred dental practice, is that we almost always have the capacity to take patients at any time. We’re a large office that runs efficiently, so when you need a walk-in appointment in case of an emergency, we’re well-equipped to bend over backward to meet your needs.

The Importance of Emergency Dentistry

You don’t realize how important timely emergency services are until something happens to you. Cracked or broken teeth are more common than you might think, so it’s likely that sometime over the course of your life, you’ll be in a situation where you need emergency dental care.

Here’s the issue—you don’t usually notice the presence of your teeth, right? Not until the roots and dentin (inner part of the tooth) containing the nerve endings are exposed to oxygen do you notice your teeth. But when that happens, it’s impossible to ignore.

Take our word for it—when you fracture a tooth, it can be a pain that you only feel a few times in your life, if you’re lucky. You need a dental practice that can provide emergency services in the shortest possible time period. Rockford Dental Care is that practice.

What to Do When You Need Emergency Dental Care

Most emergency cases involve a trip, fall, or hit to the face that damages teeth or knocks them out. There are a few other reasons you’d need to schedule a last-minute appointment (a root canal to save teeth, for example), but the most common cases involve cracked or broken teeth.

The first thing you need to do is call Rockford Dental Care, and let us know when you’ll be able to make it into our office. We’ll clear the schedule of a member of our team (one who specializes in the care you need) for that time.

In the meantime, you’ll want to alleviate pain and swelling. Swirling warm water with a salt solution in it has been known to immediately alleviate tooth pain. You can also take over-the-counter pain medications. However, make sure you disclose any drugs you take to your dentist when you come in for your emergency appointment.

Apply a cold compress to the area of your face where the injury occurred. This will prevent both the swelling of your gums where the tooth damage occurred, as well as local swelling from the trauma. If teeth have fallen out of your mouth, attempt to hold them in the socket with gauze, or in an emergency, a dampened tea bag will do the trick.

When it’s time for your appointment with Rockford Dental Care, make sure you have any teeth or parts of teeth that you were able to recover with you.
